Board of Supervisors Approves Gum Spring Library Funding
Last night, the Board of Supervisors approved my motion to provide $1.7 million to staff the Gum Spring Library on an 8-1 vote. The Board’s action–subject to final budget approval in early April–means that the Gum Spring Library will open up on time in December 2012.
I would like to thank Chairman Scott York and the rest of my colleagues on the Board for their support of the library. There is a strong desire on the part of the new Board to hold the line on taxes, but moving forward with the final piece of this project was the right decision.
There are many individuals who have played a role in making the library a reality, but I want to especially congratulate Karen Montgomery, Chair of the Friends of the Gum Spring Library, for the countless hours she has spent building support for this project. I also want to thank those of you in the community who spoke up during our budget discussions–your voices were heard loud and clear.
I look forward to having a big celebration on opening day in December!
The Board of Supervisors continues work this week on other aspects of the FY2013 budget. As always, feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Supervisor Matt Letourneau
